Sobornost is a Russian word that is used for ‘unity.’ It is the word that is used to translate the word ‘catholic’ (universal) in the Nicene Creed – “…I believe in one Holy, Catholic and ApostolicChurch…” It has also been used to symbolize unity in diversity, and seems especially appropriate for our parish community, made up as it is of Orthodox Christians who have come together from diverse ethnic and faith backgrounds to give glory and thanksgiving to the one, true God. It can also describe the absolute unity of our Triune God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. May God bless us, His Body, the Church, with sobornost, unity!
